RCD Celebrates 60 Years, Unveils Fall Lineup and The Piantaggini Method

As Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance (RCD) embarks on its 60th anniversary, the Main Street dance school is open for enrollment, offering a variety of classes for students of all ages. With a rich history of nurturing young dance artists, RCD continues to be a cornerstone of the community, providing a comprehensive dance education that emphasizes technique, artistry, and creativity.

RCD offers a range of classes designed to cater to different age groups and skill levels. The Young Children’s Program, including the popular parent-and-child classes for ages 1, 2, and 3, allows parents to share the joy of dance with their little ones. In addition, the school has an exciting lineup of classes, including Pre-Ballet, the newly introduced Broadway Babies, and adult tap and ballet, among others.

Highlights include:

  • Workshop on mental health for dancers with Dr. Michele Gargan
  • Free pre-ballet mini preview/trial class for new dancers, and injury prevention with Samara DiMattia from CT Dance Physical Therapy.

The Piantaggini Method: A Resource for Dance Educators

RCD’s Executive Director, Amy Piantaggini, has made significant contributions to youth programming, leading to the publication of her curriculum book, Pre-Ballet: The Piantaggini Method: A Curriculum for Age 1-7. This resource, designed for teaching artists who educate young children, includes syllabi and suggested playlists for classes such as Dance for Ones with Grown-Up, Dance for Twos and Threes with Grown-Up, Dance for 3s & 4s Independent, Pre-Ballet for Pre-K, and Pre-Ballet for Kindergarteners. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, RCD is nationally recognized as a “distinguished, high-achieving, pre-professional performing arts school” dedicated to nurturing young dance artists with strong movement techniques. The school’s mission is to educate and encourage students to become knowledgeable, passionate, and thoughtful artists. Through its programs, students develop self-discipline, teamwork, and confidence, while aspiring to performance opportunities in productions such as The Nutcracker and Ridgefield Civic Ballet, as well as college dance programs and professional dance careers.
