Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance Faculty Spotlight: Dona Wiley
At Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance (RCD), we take pride in having an exceptionally talented and dedicated faculty, and Dona Wiley is no exception. As an alumna of RCD and now an accomplished teaching artist, Dona’s journey from student to professional educator showcases her deep commitment to dance, education, and artistic growth.
A Journey of Artistic Leadership
In addition to teaching at RCD, Dona is entering her third year as Artistic Director of Connecticut Dance School, a nonprofit organization in Fairfield, CT, dedicated to providing high-quality dance education. Dona’s expertise is rooted in her training and certification in the American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum, a program that ensures excellence in teaching and student development. Fully certified to teach all levels of the ABT program, Dona brings this wealth of knowledge to her students at RCD, where she strives to inspire the next generation of dancers.
Returning to Her Roots
For Dona, teaching at RCD is especially meaningful. “RCD will always hold a special place in my heart as my home studio,” she shares. It was at RCD that Dona first developed the versatility that shaped her professional career. “During my time here as a student, I learned a variety of dance techniques that allowed me to be versatile in my professional career. It’s a very special place for me, and I am so grateful for all of the opportunities given to me that RCD made possible.” Now, she has come full circle, giving back to the very institution that set her on the path to success.
A Balance of Passion and Professionalism
When she’s not teaching or leading, Dona enjoys spending time outdoors. On weekends, you’ll often find her hiking with her husband and their dog Didi in the Leon Levy Preserve. This balance between her professional commitments and personal interests reflects Dona’s grounded and thoughtful approach to both her life and her work.
Mentorship and Growth
Dona’s growth as both a dancer and a teacher has been especially rewarding for her colleagues at RCD. “Dona was one of my students when I first started teaching here in 2006,” shares her former teacher Amy Piantaggini, Executive Director of Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance (RCD).
“It’s been incredible to watch her grow into an accomplished teaching artist, herself now leading a similar nonprofit at Connecticut Dance School. Our students are lucky to have her on faculty at RCD.”
Dona Wiley’s professional career and dedication to dance education are a testament to the level of excellence we strive for at Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance. We are proud to have her as part of our faculty, inspiring our students with her experience, passion, and expertise.
