Continuing with our Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance (RCD) faculty spotlight series, we’re excited to feature Executive Director Amy Piantaggini. Since joining RCD in 2007 and stepping into the role of Executive Director in 2014, Amy has been a driving force in expanding the Conservatory’s programs and deepening its connections within the Ridgefield community. Her experience and vision have continued to shape RCD into a renowned pre-professional dance institution.
The Piantaggini Method: A Curriculum for Ages 1–7
This year, Amy celebrated a major milestone by publishing her book, The Piantaggini Method: A Curriculum for Ages 1–7. Available on Amazon, this innovative curriculum provides a structured yet playful approach to introducing young children to dance. Designed for ages 1–7, Amy’s curriculum brings her extensive teaching experience and deep understanding of early dance education into a cohesive, easy-to-follow guide that can be used by fellow instructors. The book underscores her commitment to nurturing young dancers from their earliest years.
Legacy with the Martha Graham Dance Company
As a former member of the esteemed Martha Graham Dance Company, Amy draws on her experience in modern dance to inspire students of all levels at RCD. She teaches the Graham technique, emphasizing precision and expression, which has become a signature of RCD’s modern dance program.
Expanding Programs and Building Community Connections
Since taking the helm as Executive Director, Amy has expanded RCD’s presence through partnerships with local organizations and has broadened the young children’s program, including her newly published pre-curriculum. Under her leadership, RCD has strengthened its role as a cornerstone of Ridgefield’s arts community.
Teaching Across All Ages and Educational Levels
Amy’s teaching career spans a wide range of ages and settings, from parent-and-child classes for young children to college-level courses. Currently, she serves as an adjunct professor, teaching musical theater majors at Western Connecticut State University, and has previously held a role as an adjunct professor at The Hartt School at the University of Hartford. As a master instructor in the Graham technique, Amy has also guest-taught at Central Michigan State University, Webster University, Barnard College, and other institutions, sharing her expertise with students across the country.
Recognition and Awards
Amy’s dedication to arts education and mentorship has garnered her notable recognition, including Thrown Stone Theater’s New Connections Award in 2022 for mentoring young women and the Nancy Comstock Andrews Superlative Teaching/Mentoring Award in 2018. These honors reflect her deep commitment to fostering artistic growth within Ridgefield and beyond.
Beyond Dance: Community Volunteer, Mom
In addition to her work at RCD, Amy is a proud mother of two sons and volunteers as a billet coordinator for the Danbury Hat Tricks Hockey Organization. Her outreach efforts include library visits, school workshops, and community dance events, reflecting her dedication to making dance accessible to all.

Adults and teens can experience Amy’s teaching style in her beginner ballet class on Thursdays at 6 PM. Her classes provide a welcoming environment for those interested in learning the foundations of ballet.
