Gerth will teach chorus at Ridgefield Academy

Melissa Gerth has been appointed the chorus teacher at the Ridgefield Academy, an independent, coeducational day school for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. After serving as a visiting artist in the spring, Ms. Gerth was asked to join the faculty and serve as director of the middle and upper school choirs.

“Having had the pleasure of working with these talented and enthusiastic children in the spring, I couldn’t be more excited to get to work and see their development over the coming year,” said Ms. Gerth.

Ms. Gerth also operates a private vocal studio, now entering it’s fifth year, which is currently accepting new students.

Melissa Gerth utilizes relaxation techniques, breath work, vocal exercises, acting techniques and repertoire development to help each student discover and develop their authentic voice. Lessons are for beginners through aspiring professionals ages 11 to adult. Sessions are 45 minutes or one hour long, depending on age and experience.

Ms. Gerth trained at the New School for Drama graduate program in New York City. She has a bachelor of arts in music from the University of Akron and her yoga teacher certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Her performance credits include acting with Axial Theatre Company, lead vocalist for the Wingnuts, The Metropolitan Chorale, Haydn’s “The Creation” at Carnegie Hall, Spirit Cruise Lines, Downtown Cabaret Theatre Children’s Company, and musical guest artist for “The Girl Show” at Caroline’s Comedy Club on Broadway. She dances with the James Robey Dance Company and the Edgar Cortes Dance Theatre, both danced and choreographed for the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra production of “Histoire du Soldat.”

In July, Melissa served as visiting artist for the Peck School of The Arts graduate program in Milwaukee, Wisconsin performing “Missa Pro Dogmata” at the Dance Works Theater.
