Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance Performs The Nutcracker, with Brand New Choreography

Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance (RCD) has a whole new Nutcracker production this year, with brand new choreography by Mary Beth Hansohn. This is RCD’s first live performance in over a year due to the pandemic.

Ms. Hansohn has been teaching ballet at RCD since 2012 and debuts her role as Nutcracker Director this season. She is no stranger to Nutcracker, having performed professionally in several Nutcrackers throughout her career.  Mary Beth regularly performed the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Dew Drop Fairy, Snow Queen and Arabian Pas de deux. She also danced for The Ohio Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Dayton Ballet, Cleveland Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Twyla Tharp Dance, Neglia Ballet, Southern California Ballet, La la la Human Steps and Dances Patrelle.

Performances will be held at The Ridgefield Playhouse on December 10, 11, and 12, continuing the annual tradition of holiday festivity, in accordance with CDC guidelines.

RCD is impressed with Ms. Hansohn’s accomplishments, “Ms. Hansohn has had the enormous task of telling the Nutcracker story through a greatly reduced cast and minimal partnering due to limitations under the pandemic,” says RCD Executive Director Amy Piantaggini.  Educational Director Polly Kingsbury says, “It has been a joy watching our dancers respond so beautifully to Miss Hansohn’s lively new choreography. We are all emerging from difficult times with joy & excitement.”

Be sure to catch a preview of Nutcracker characters as live mannequins in RCD’s Main Street windows (440 Main Street) during Downtown Ridgefield’s Holiday Stroll Friday, December 3 and Saturday, December 4. r
