The Nutcracker will be staged three times this weekend

Some tickets remain for the magical family event The Nutcracker, a holiday tradition at The Ridgefield Playhouse, in three performances: Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 and 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m. The Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance features a cast of professional and student dancers.

“It’s hard to find a better quality production of The Nutcracker not to mention the snug atmosphere of the Playhouse where each seat is a good one,” said Allison Stockel, executive director of The Ridgefield Playhouse, about this annual holiday show.

“This is such a wonderful family event where kids of all ages are in awe of the dancers, the sets and the music. A lot of holiday tradition and warm memories are made through The Nutcracker.”

In this year’s show, the role of Dr. Drosselmeyer, the godfather/magician who gives little Clara the magical Nutcracker, is played by James Robey, artistic director for this production and director of the Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance. The cast includes professional and student dancers. A special appearance will be made by Ridgefield’s First Selectman Rudy Marconi.

Tchaikovsky’s ballet adaptation of the story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A. Hoffman was originally staged in 1892 and is as popular and relevant as ever. Going to The Nutcracker is a focal point of the holiday season and one that enchants children when the sugar plum fairies, snowflakes, mice, wooden soldiers and toys come to life and dance into their hearts. The masterful music swells as the dancers grace the stage much to the delight of children and adults alike.
